The RACER project was carried out by PIAP Space under an ESA contract to characterise the realistically achievable maximum speed of a remotely controlled Moon exploration rover in the terrain of various difficulties. Another project objective was to compare how the rover conducts its operations (traversing, robotic arm manipulation) when controlled via teleoperation and semi-autonomy. The tests were conducted to simulate the environment similar to the lunar one and the rover being controlled from the lunar orbit and Earth.
